When you think coffee you may think South America. You may even think of one of the global coffee brand names you see on every high street. You may though be forgiven for not thinking of the North West of England!

Well that’s where Joe Black Coffee comes in. A traditional flame roasting house based on Merseyside, they have been roasting coffee for over 50 years now from a site just a few miles away from Liverpool City Centre. Originally based in Hope Street (formerly known as Bellews), it moved five years ago and is now owned by entrepreneur, Jeremy Janion.

The company supplies coffee to caterers, retailers, breweries and coffee lovers alike. Its customer base includes some iconic names such as London Carriage Works, Bierkeller, Host, Central Perk, Liverpool FC and the Liverpool museums and universities as well as some smaller coffee houses and now a large slice of the local Chester and Wirral food and beverage market.

“The company name comes from America where they call a coffee a cup of Joe” explains Tracy Gibbons – Account Manager for Wirral and North Wales. She continues “Coffee shops and restaurants are our bread and butter, but we are branching more into the hotel industry, supplying cafeteria coffee for guests to enjoy in their rooms.”

Tracy adds “One of our unique selling points is that clients can come down to the roastery and create their very own bespoke signature blend of coffee, even creating their own packaging, which they can sell in their venue. There are over a hundred coffee blends possible.”

Joe Black Coffee have now began to branch out and grow across the Wirral and Chester regions and have found that coffee is now following suit with food ! Just as food lovers like their meat to be locally sourced or their vegetables to come from a nearby farm people now equate the terms “local food” and “sustainable food” with their coffee and want local, fresh and quality.

With lots of clients wanting to develop a bespoke coffee blend that suits their needs best, so they can have a signature blend of their own. This process is a real USP for Joe Black Coffee and several clients such as Caldy Golf Club, Chester Cathedrals and Amber Lounge have recently made use of this service.

Another is Chester based company, The Blue Moon Cafe, owned by Sarah May who commented “Some companies talk about great customer service, but the whole team at Joe Black Coffee actually deliver. What’s also refreshing for our business is that they also bring new product ideas, hints and tips for sales and promotions – we can’t recommend the whole team highly enough.”

From outlets ranging from small Café’s and the leisure sector, through to large hotels. Joe Black’s hold an extensive range of Coffee, both beans and ground as well as related products specific to each sector to which they supply, such as branded sugar sachets with your company logo on.

The company prides itself prides itself on offering a highly responsive and personal service, working with clients to maximize coffee and other product sales. Tracy continues “We monitor continually our day to day working relationship with our clients, providing ongoing customer care and a running dialogue to seek ways to achieve greater exposure for both sides through marketing, PR and other channels.”

What next then for Joe Black Coffee? Tracy adds “Well we are now moving into new areas with a recently launched full e-commerce website. So now coffee connoisseurs can order their favourite bean direct to their home from their armchair.”
